Orioles prospect Billy Cook’s season has been a career-year, to say the least, and he has shown that he has true potential to be a strong utility player in the future.

With that being said, Cook participated in three different parts of record-setting history within the last month of the MiLB season for the Double-A Bowie Baysox. What records, you may ask? Well, let’s get into it.

Second ever 20-20 player in Bowie history

Cook officially punched himself into the Bowie record book on September 5, when he became the second ever Bowie Baysox player to record a 20-20 season.

Cook hit 24 home runs and collected 30 stolen bases on the season and hit his 20th home run of the season in walk-off fashion to win the first game of a series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The only other Bowie player to have a 20-20 season was back in 2017 when former Oriole, now Mets outfielder DJ Stewart, hit 21 of them and 20 stolen bases.

Four walk-offs in a row, two off the same pitcher

Shout out the Baysox Twitter (X) page for bringing this one to our attention. Bowie won four straight home games in walk-off fashion, and Cook was responsible for two of them.

It started on August 19, when Altoona Curve pitcher Geronimo Franzua threw a wild pitch that scored Baysox outfielder John Rhodes to win 6-5 in 10 innings. Then, on August 20, Greg Cullen hit a walk-off two-run homer in the 13th inning to win 7-6.

Finally, on September 5, Cook hit a three-run shot in the bottom of the 11th that gave Bowie a 8-5 win. The very next day, the 24-year-old hit a two-run bomb to give his team an 11-10 victory in 10 innings. This involved a third record, as Cook hit both walk-off home runs against the same pitcher, Joe Jones, from New Hampshire.

Cook was nine home runs short of the Bowie record for home runs in a season with 33. Nonetheless, he put together a legendary season and did everything he could to help Bowie have a successful year.

The O’s No. 27 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, finished the season slashing .251/.320/.456 with an OPS of .776, tallying 112 total hits, 24 home runs, 81 RBIs and 30 stolen bases in 120 games, all at the Double-A level.
