It’s official. The 2023 Bowie Baysox season has ended, and it was unfortunately on a series loss to the Harrisburg Senators.

While the pitching looked absolutely stunning on the mound, the offense was not as stellar but still looked good in the series.

The Bowie offense put up a .246/.294/.394 slash line in the five games played this series. They had 43 total hits, 29 singles, five doubles, two triples and six home runs. They also had 23 RBIs, stole five bases and walked 10 times.

The pitching staff, however, put together a 3.86 ERA, struck out 42 batters and only allowed 18 earned runs.

Three players really showed out this past week. Let’s see who stood out in the final series of the season.

ALEX PHAM – RHP

We start with the best pitcher for Bowie in the series, which was the young and upcoming star Alex Pham, who only pitched in one game in the series but was phenomenal. Pham pitched five innings, gave up three hits, one earned run and struck out five batters.

Pham came to Bowie late in the season and really put on a show, as in 14 total games and nine starts, Pham carried a 2.67 ERA. He pitched 60.2 innings, gave up 43 hits, 18 earned runs, walked 17 batters and struck out 54.

Pham is one of the more underrated prospects for Baltimore and is someone who we could possibly see make a 2024 big league debut at some point.

SAMUEL BASALLO – C/1B

It was his first week at the Double-A level, and he did nothing short of showing his true potential. Samuel Basallo is the Orioles’ breakout prospect of the year, and he showed why during this past series.

In four games, Basallo slashed .467/.500/.667 with a 1.167 OPS, tallying seven hits, two RBIs and a walk. The 19-year-old had a season that consisted of hitting .313 and smashing 20 home runs.

He had 131 total hits and 26 doubles on the season. In his first season with Oriole affiliates outside of Rookie Ball, Basallo climbed the affiliate ladder and dominated all season.

MAX WAGNER – INF

The final standout of the week is infielder Max Wagner, who really shined to end the season. In four games, Wagner slashed .500/.529/.750 with a 1.279 OPS, collecting eight hits, five singles, two doubles, one triple and three RBIs. He also stole a base and walked once.

Wagner showed out in his short time with Bowie, as he only played 27 games. He had a .717 OPS, hit three home runs, tallied 18 RBIs, 28 hits and seven doubles. He finished the 2023 season overall as a 20-20 player with 21 doubles and 27 stolen bases.

Bowie’s next game will be on April 5, 2024, when they host the Reading Fightin’ Phils to start the 2024 season. Yes, we unfortunately have to wait a little over six months for Bowie baseball to pick back up.

It has been nothing short of amazing writing about the Baysox this season. It consisted of so many big moments, including top prospect Jackson Holliday’s time with the team to a no-hitter being thrown. Thank you to everyone who read these Bowie articles, and I can’t wait to see what the Baysox do next season.
