The minor league season is coming to an end, and that includes the final Bowie Baysox home series of the 2023 season against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Bowie really put the team in high gear in their final home series, as they took four of the six games and looked energized the entire series.
Bowie’s offense popped off in the series and were on-base machines. They slashed .240/.374/.443 with a .817 OPS in 192 at-bats and had 46 total hits, five doubles, two triples and 10 home runs with 37 RBIs. They also walked 39 times and stole eight bases in 10 attempts.
The Bowie pitching staff also did pretty well putting together a 4.34 ERA and striking out 67 batters while walking 18. They did have an issue in relief with not a single hold and going 0-for-2 in save opportunities.
All in all, three players really popped off for Bowie this week. Let’s go over it.
BILLY COOK – UTL
Billy Cook didn’t just have a really good series. He was named the Eastern League Player of the Week because of his series.
Cook slashed a mean .348/.500/.1000 with a 1.500 OPS in all six games. He had eight hits, nine runs, three singles and five home runs, which included back-to-back games with a walk-off. He also had 11 RBIs and walked five times.
Cook’s season has been impeccable, to say the least. He just punched his ticket as the second ever 20-20 player in Bowie history, as he’s currently sitting at 24 home runs and 30 stolen bases. He also has a .259 average and has a team-high 112 hits for Bowie.

GREG CULLEN – INF
Greg Cullen has been hot and cold this season, but he was red hot this series for Bowie and was a major factor for the series win. In four games, Cullen slashed .538/.684/.769 with a 1.453 OPS, as he collected seven hits, a home run and three RBIs. He also walked six times and stole a base.
Cullen has really picked it up since coming back from injury and rejoining Bowie. He currently has a .808 OPS in 47 games this season at the Double-A level. On the season, Cullen has 40 hits, eight doubles, three home runs and 35 walks.
DYLAN HEID – RHP
What a series for the new Bowie right-hander, Dylan Heid. He came out of the bullpen and just put New Hampshire on straight lockdown this past series.
Heid pitched in two games and went 1-0 in five innings pitched. He didn’t give up a hit, gave up just one earned run for a 1.80 ERA, walked two batters and struck out four.
While Heid had a great debut with Bowie, he has been lights out all season in the Orioles’ system. In 31 games, he has a 2.64 ERA and has grabbed four saves in five attempts. Heid also has 63 strikeouts, has held batters to a .184 batting average and has a WHIP of 1.11.

Bowie starts their final series of the season on September 12, when they head to play the Harrisburg Senators on the road. The Baysox are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, as they are now three games out of first place and need the Erie Seawolves to beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
