The Bowie Baysox continued to try and stay in the playoff race and really needed to win a crucial series against the Akron RubberDucks, but it didn’t go as planned.

The Baysox went 2-4 this week, and the series consisted of many comeback victories for Akron and great offensive performances by Bowie.

Bowie’s offense was the most impressive part of this series, as they slashed .243/.338/.335 with a .673 OPS. I can’t remember a time when a team’s OBP was higher than their slugging percentage within an entire series.

Bowie had 50 hits, five doubles, one triple and four home runs throughout the series. That means that 82% of the hits for Bowie were singles.

The pitching was another story, as Bowie had a 4.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.38. They also had a blown save, only two holds and walked 20 batters while striking out 59.

When talking about the team as a whole, three players really stood out in the series. Let’s go over them.

TRACE BRIGHT – RHP

The future continues to be Bright in the Orioles’ farm system. Trace Bright has been great since his call-up to Bowie, and that proved to be extremely true after his start in this series. Bright pitched a no decision and went five innings, gave up four hits, two earned runs, walked two batters and struck out six.

Bright has made two starts in Bowie and currently has a 2.00 ERA and has held batters to a .194 batting average. His entire season has been great, though, as all season he has held batters to just a .202 average, carrying a 4.12 ERA in 91.2 innings pitched.

JUD FABIAN – OF

Jud “the Stud” is back at it again. Fabian has been an on-base machine recently and was impactful in this past series.

Fabian played in all six games and slashed .278/.519/.611 with a 1.130 OPS in 18 at-bats. He collected five hits, three singles and two home runs with five RBIs. He also had eight walks and stole two bases in two attempts.

Fabian has struggled in his time with Bowie this season but has been on a tear as of late. The 2022 draft selection has played in 55 games for Bowie and has a .310 on-base percentage with an OPS of .722. He’s hit 14 home runs and has driven in 26 while also stealing 12 bases.

JACKSON HOLLIDAY – INF

The top prospect in baseball has played in his final series in Double-A, and he made his mark. Holliday played in all six games and slashed a clean .450/.522/.550 with a 1.072 OPS. He tallied nine hits, two doubles, walked three times and stole two bases in two attempts.

Holliday ends his Bowie campaign with a .338 average and an OPS of .928. He had 48 hits, nine doubles, three triples and three home runs with 15 RBIs. The 19-year-old will now join Triple-A Norfolk and will play in the postseason for the Tides.

Bowie is now 30-27 in the second half and is currently two games behind Richmond for the second half playoff spot in the Eastern League. They begin their final home series against New Hampshire starting Tuesday, September 5, with a 6:35 p.m. EST start time.

We had some transactions happen for Bowie, as players have been promoted around the O’s farm. Here are the moves that were made:

  • Jackson Holliday Bowie –> Norfolk
  • Nolan Hoffman Bowie –> Norfolk
  • Dylan Heid Aberdeen –> Bowie
  • Trey McGough Aberdeen –> Bowie
