It’s unfortunate to see Ryan Mountcastle’s on-base streak ended last night. But, it was, at the time, the longest streak among active players. So, let’s recap his awesome achievement.
Mountcastle’s on-base streak started on July 21, when he went 1-for-3 with a double against Tampa Bay and ended with Mountcastle going 0-for-4 against Toronto, which included a lineout hit 101 mph off the bat. The most impressive thing with Mountcastle is the complete stat line he compiled during the on-base streak.
In the 28 games, Mountcastle slashed .374/.448/.606 with a 1.054 OPS. He had 37 hits, five doubles, six home runs and 20 RBIs and also walked 15 times. The Orioles went 17-11 during this stint.
So, what did this on-base streak do for Mountcastle’s season? It honestly might have saved it.
Before the on-base streak, Mountcastle’s season was a mix of up and down moments. He slashed .233/.268/.424 and had a .692 OPS after having a stint where he struggled mightily due to suffering from vertigo.
Mountcastle’s streak really impacted his season, as his average is now up to .272 (+.39), his on-base percentage went up to .321 (.+53) and his slugging percentage increased to .475 (+.51). Finally, his OPS went up to an impressive .796 (+.104).
While Mountcastle’s on-base streak is over, it really helped push the Orioles into a spot where they are two games ahead in the AL East and is highly probable to see the postseason. Hopefully, Mountcastle has another big streak incoming, and he continues to show how impactful he is for this team.
