The Bowie Baysox played a tough series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels and came out on top. Between their effective offense and great pitching, the Baysox became tied for first place in the Eastern League for the second half.
Bowie’s offense put together a slashline of .237/.340/.346 with a .686 OPS. They collected 50 total hits, 12 doubles, one triple and three home runs. They also walked 29 times and stole five bases in nine attempts.
Their pitching, however, constructed an astonishing 4.83 ERA and grabbed three saves in four attempts.
But overall, four players really stood out for the Baysox overall. And, surprise, a certain 19-year-old kicks us off.
JACKSON HOLLIDAY – INF
The day that we stop talking about this kid is the day that we never want to look forward to. Holliday is the definition of a hitting machine, as this week consisted of him having a five-hit day, which tied him for most hits in a Baysox game with All-Star outfielder Cedric Mullins.
Holliday played in six games and slashed .346/.433/.462 with a .895 OPS. He smashed nine hits, one double, one triple and knocked in five. He also walked four times and stole a base in the series. Holliday already has 116 hits this season between three level and has an average of .342 on the year.
SILAS ARDOIN – C
Ardoin might have gotten knocked off the Orioles’ top 30 prospects list, but that does not mean he still isn’t a solid catching prospect for the organization. Ardoin was just promoted to Bowie and has been dominant in the eight total games he has played.
Ardoin played in five games in the series and carried a .400 average with a .993 OPS. He had six total hits, including a double, and totaled up three RBIs while also walking four times. Ardoin now has a .308 average in Bowie and has totaled up eight hits.
JUD FABIAN – OF
Jud Fabian has been struggling at the plate during his time with Bowie. However, in this series, he was the centerpiece of making sure that Bowie hit the long ball against Richmond.
Fabian played in five games and put together a .733 slugging percentage and a team-high 1.178 OPS. He had five hits, with two of them being home runs that also helped knock in three. Fabian now has a .699 OPS in Bowie but has 10 home runs in total and has 21 walks during his time with Bowie.
RYAN LONG – RHP
No one pitcher really had a crazy series for Bowie, as it seems that manager Kyle Moore puts them on semi-short leashes, but one reliever was reliable during the series. Ryan Long had one impeccable performance during the series when he came in relief.
Long pitched five innings of three-hit baseball and only gave up one run during that time, walking none and striking out five. That game also led to him picking up a save. Long has been struggling on the mound since being called up to Bowie, as he has a 6.57 ERA in six total games, but this one game proved that he can be effective when needed.
Bowie will begin their next series at home as they host the Altoona Curve starting at 6:35 p.m. EST on Tuesday, August 15.
