The Bowie Baysox have won yet another home series, as they went 4-2 against Boston’s Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs.
Bowie’s offense put on a show in most of the games, as they put up 32 runs in the series and put together a team OPS of .805. They also hit 10 home runs, walked 34 times, had 48 total hits and stole 12 bases on 12 attempts as a team.
The pitching, on the other hand, put together a 4.33 ERA, struck out 63 batters and collected one save. Four players really stuck out this series, and one of them just keeps asserting dominance.
This series was a bit of fun in the fact that there were two major league players joining the team in Cedric Mullins and Tyler Wells.
ALEX PHAM – RHP
Alex Pham is still relativity new to the Double-A experience and is currently adapting at a stellar pace. Pham pitched in one game in the series and went 5.1 innings, gave up five hits, two earned runs, walked a batter and struck out seven. He unfortunately got the lose in the game.
Pham not only has a 2.20 ERA in 19 minor league games this season, but he now has a 1.78 ERA in Bowie alone in just seven games. He has pitched 30.1 innings with Bowie and has only given up six earned runs, one home run, walked eight batters and struck out 25. Pham is a sneaky pitching prospect that we might need to be on the lookout for over the next year.
DYLAN BEAVERS – OF
His first week with the Baysox was nothing short of incredible for outfielder Dylan Beavers, who debuted with Bowie on Wednesday and put together a solid week against Portland. In five games, Beavers slashed .400/.500/.550 with a 1.050 OPS in 20 at-bats and totaled eight hits, three doubles, three RBIs and four walks.
Beavers now has a .845 OPS in 90 total minor league games this season. He has 93 total hits, 29 doubles, nine home runs, 51 RBIs and 54 walks. Beavers was drafted in 2022 and has already been helping that draft class show the impact they have on the farm system already in Baltimore.
JACKSON HOLLIDAY – INF
Even when he only plays in 50% of the games, he continues to be impactful at the plate. Holliday was out with an illness when this series started, so he only participated in three games. He still hit .545 with a 1.706 OPS, collecting six hits, two home runs and three RBIs, with a walk and a strikeout.
Holliday keeps showing day after day that he is the top prospect in baseball for a reason. He has a 1.007 OPS, .342 average and 107 total hits between three levels this season. In Bowie alone, the 19-year-old has a .396 average with a 1.090 OPS in just 13 games.
BILLY COOK – OF
In the words of the voice of the Baysox, Evan Johnson, LET HIM COOK! Billy Cook was a powerhouse at the plate this series, collecting seven hits, four of them being home runs, including a two-home-run night. He also had 12 RBIs that also included a seven-RBI night while having a slashline of .280/.269/.760 with a 1.029 OPS.
Cook has been an underrated piece of this Bowie team. The 10th-round pick just two years ago has put together 17 home runs on 86 hits this season. Yet another under-the-radar prospect that we should be keeping an eye on in the next year.
Bowie begins their next series on August 8, as they go up against the San Francisco Giants’ Double-A affiliate, the Richmond Flying Squirrels. This series is extremely huge for Bowie because they are only two games behind Richmond for first place in their division.
We had some roster movement in Bowie after Sundays game as well, as three O’s prospects were promoted to the Double-A level.
- Joesph Rosa: Bowie —> Norfolk
- Max Wagner, Max Costes, Collin Burns: Aberdeen —> Bowie
