Earlier this week, Orioles Executive Vice President and GM Mike Elias said that top prospect outfielder Colton Cowser was a phone call away from the big leagues. Apparently, tonight, he has received that call.

The Orioles’ No. 2 prospect is set to join the big league club in New York, according to multiple sources, including MASN’s Roch Kubatko. The club will select his contract and make a corresponding roster move.

Cowser, who was drafted fifth overall in 2021 out of Sam Houston State, has had quite the career in Triple-A Norfolk. His slash line is .292/.459/.537 in a mear 83 games. He spent almost two weeks on the injured list for a strained quad, but that did not seem to slow him down at all.

The 23-year-old outfielder is a career .305/.431/.489 hitter in the minors. He has collected 254 total minor league hits, tallying 54 doubles, three triples, 31 home runs, 140 RBIs and 32 stolen bases.

At the time of writing this, Cowser has jumped to the 14th ranked prospect in all of baseball, soaring his way up the ranks since starting the season at No. 40. He has proven his bat with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 56 games this season. He also has proven his eye with an amazing 48 walks in the same amount of time.

The Orioles have been in a downward spiral the last week or so. They are by no means out of it, but it is apparent they need a spark in the lineup, and Cowser is the leading candidate.

Calling up Cowser is just the tip of the iceberg of what Orioles fans will see over the next two or three years. Adley and Gunnar were anchor points, and powerhouse prospects like Cowser will fill in the gaps around them.

The only question we have left to answer is how will Cowser get his Legos to Baltimore?

One response to “Orioles calling up top prospect Colton Cowser”

  1. Finally, now that Hays is healthy and playing as thought, how about he and Mateo for pitching?
