The Baltimore Battery has learned that Orioles top prospect Jordan Westburg is en route to Baltimore and will be making his major league debut on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan was the first to report this information. At the time of this writing, we are still gathering information.
Westburg is currently not on the O’s 40-man roster, so a corresponding move will need to be made, as well as one to the active roster.
Westburg is currently slashing .295/.372/.567 across 67 games this season. He has hit 18 home runs and knocked in 54 runs. Westburg has played second, short, third, left field and right field this season.
Westburg, the Orioles’ No. 3 prospect and Baseball America’s No. 46 is a smooth defender with a strong bat. Most likely to slot in at second or short when he plays, Westburg was the Robin to Gunnar Henderson’s Batman, as they rose through the minors together.
The 24-year-old was the 30th overall pick in the 2020 draft out of Mississippi State. He has a career minors slash line of .278/.371/.506 with 344 total hits, 60 home runs and 239 RBIs.
We will update this story with more information as soon as we gather it. Stay tuned for more from The Baltimore Battery.
UPDATE: The Orioles have officially announced their roster moves prior to the Cincinnati series.
The team selected the contract of Jordan Westburg from Triple-A Norfolk while optioning infielder Joey Ortiz to Norfolk.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the O’s designated catcher José Godoy for assignment. He cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.
