Once again, the Delmarva Shorebirds faced off against a familiar foe, the Salem Red Sox. In what’s been all too familiar this season, Salem came out on top in five of these six games against the Shorebirds.

One thing to note was that one game that was played as the first of a doubleheader on Thursday was for a previous series that had been rained out.

To kick things off, let’s look at the final scores from this week:

Game 1: DEL 10, SAL 2

Game 2: DEL 1, SAL 7

Game 3: DEL 5, SAL 7

Game 4: DEL 6, SAL 10

Game 5: DEL 0, SAL 5

Game 6: DEL 4, SAL 10

This Delmarva lineup is undoubtedly lacking some star potential nowadays. However, there is one young stud everyone should be looking out for.

Carter Young is a 22-year-old shortstop prospect out of Vanderbuilt. To start the season, Young was extremely overlooked due to the presence of Jackson Holiday. Since Holliday’s promotion, Young has made a case that the Orioles have yet another solid middle infield prospect within their farm system.

During this week against Salem, Young had six total hits in 19 at-bats, with a double and four runs scored. Young also netted two RBIs in his five games played.

The last of the original Delmarva big three, Sam Basallo, continued to show that he pretty much has nothing left to prove at the Low-A level. Basallo recorded another six-hit week in 20 at-bats, including one home run, two RBIs and five walks to just two strikeouts.

Basallo now has a .801 OPS on the season while matching his career-high in walks already with 19.

Adam Crampton is yet another 22-year-old shortstop prospect. However, he is not as highly-regarded as the rest. Either way, Crampton had a hell of a week, going 6-for-19 and netting three singles, a double, triple, and home run. Along with his six hits, Crampton also scored six runs.

On the mound, the Shorebirds simply can not get the job done. Six arms allowed three runs or more in this series,

Moisés Chace had himself a good week, as he is usually one of the few that does for Delmarva. In two appearances, Chace struck out nine batters over seven innings of work.

Edgar Portes is another young arm we have mentioned before, and he deserves mentioning now. In Portes’ four innings of work, he allowed no runs while striking out five.

The Shorebirds hope to get on track before the draft in early July. Their next action will be on Tuesday, starting at 7:05 p.m. EST against the Augusta GreenJackets, the Low-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
