The Bowie Baysox have dropped yet another series, this time to the Harrisburg Senators. While the bats were going, the pitching was doing anything but flowing on the mound.

The Baysox offense put up a .296/.486/.429 slashline with a .914 OPS, while the pitching put up a 6.05 ERA and a WHIP of 1.45.

The team as a whole did have some players stand out and get the job done this week. Two of them were exceptional hitters, and the other two were pitchers that were shut down on the mounr.

CARLOS TAVERA – RHP

Tavera was someone that we talked about last week, as he was the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. While his week was not the same dominance of last week, he was still solid on the mound.

Tavera pitched in one game, and while he did get the loss, he still had four innings of work. He gave up five hits, two earned runs, walked zero batters and struck out 10. While Tavera carried a 4.50 ERA in the series, striking out 10 of the 12 batters he faced in an outing of relief is still insane.

HESTON KJERSTAD – OF

Just remember, the Orioles apparently reached for Heston Kjerstad in 2020.

Playing in all six games, Kjerstad slashed .346/.452/.500 with a .952 OPS in 26 at-bats. He had nine total hits, four runs, seven singles, one double, one home run and two RBIs. Kjerstad continues a season where he has a .959 OPS and 11 home runs.

GARRETT STALLINGS – RHP

Stallings made the most of his two appearances in this series. The right-handeder, who was traded to the Orioles for José Iglesias in 2020, has been up and down in his time with the organization.

Stallings pitched nine total innings and gave up six hits, three earned runs, walked two batters and struck out 10. He had a 0.89 WHIP and a 3.00 ERA this week and has turned his season around, bringing his season ERA down to 4.64 in 10 total games, with a WHIP of 1.17.

DONTA’ WILLIAMS – OF

I would be lying right now if I didn’t say that I am super excited to talk about Donta’ Williams because the 23-year-old outfielder can flat out play ball.

The former fourth-round pick in 2021 has not had the best season so far offensively yet is still making highlight reels with his glove. This week, however, it was his hitting that showed out.

In all six games, Williams slashed .500/.640/.778 with a 1.418 OPS in just 18 at-bats. He had nine hits, three runs, four singles and five doubles and also had six RBIs and three walks.

Williams had a season average of .150 after Bowie’s game on May 28, but his average is now at .200 after the game on June 4. Williams brought his average up a whole .50 points this week, which is pretty impressive.

Bowie has dropped to an 18-31 record, which is 13 games under .500. They are now 10 games out of first in the Southwest Division of the Eastern League and have a chance to get some games back, as they play the first place Erie Seawolves starting Tuesday.
