O’s look to gain ground, as Tigers visit OPACY

Way back in May, the Orioles had just swept the now-NL-Central-leading Cardinals in a dominant three-game performance.

The series after that took place in Detroit, where the Tigers absolutely handed it to the Orioles. Now in September, the Orioles still trailing the final AL Wild Card spot by just four games have a chance for revenge against those same Tigers.

This time around, the stakes are a bit higher. The Tigers have been eliminated from playoff contention, and they would enjoy nothing more than putting the playoffs completely out of reach for the Orioles.

If the Birds come out and play like they did back in May, that will be an easy job for the Tigers.

Luckily for the O’s, they have a couple of guys this time around who were not on the team back then. We are talking about the duo of Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson.

Adley, Gunnar and company host the Tigers at Camden Yards for three games that begin with Tyler Wells on the mound for game one. Games two and three will be pitched by Austin Voth and Jordan Lyles.

Putting some pressure on this Tigers pitching staff will go along way, as it is one of the worst in the AL. Big bats like Rutschman, Henderson and Mateo need to shine.

Most importantly, a lot of it falls on the starting pitching, which is our ❌️-FACTOR for the series.

This late in the season, the O’s bullpen will be perpetually worn down, and eating as many innings as possible by those three starters will be key.

If they can find some longevity and stifle the Tigers’ lineup, this should be a series win for sure.

This series kicks off Monday at 7:05 p.m. EST. You can catch each game on MASN or on your local Orioles Radio Network station.
