Ladies and gentleman, the day we have all been waiting for has arrived.
The Baltimore Orioles have selected the contract of Adley Rutschman, and he will join the team Saturday in Baltimore.
Wearing No. 35, Rutschman’s appearance in Saturday’s game will be his major league debut. Without a doubt the most anticipated prospect in all of baseball, Rutschman finally sees his first big league playing time as the top prospect in all of baseball.
It was clear Rutschman may have been ready as early as last season, when he finished his 2021 campaign with a slash line of .285/.397/.502 with a .899 OPS. Things took a turn south early in spring training, when a right tricep injury sidelined Rutschman for the entirety of spring training.
After waiting for what seemed like ages, but was only a few weeks, Rutschman began his rehab assignment in High-A Aberdeen. He once again proved his talents far surpass that of the Single-A level and was moved up once again to Double-A Bowie.
New team, same story. Rutschman was back in Triple-A Norfolk within a few games.
Admittedly, Rutschman struggled in his first few games back in Triple-A, but that was never going to alter his call-up. At the end of it all, Rutschman finished his short stint with a .233 average.
Rutschman will complete a battery with Kyle Bradish for Saturday’s game, a combination we saw and loved in their time at Norfolk.
Birdland, it is time. Your No. 1 prospect is now your starting catcher. Welcome to The Show, Adley Rutschman!
