Orioles host Rays for hot weekend set: Series Preview 5/20/22 – 5/22/22

Following an exciting walk-off victory to avoid a sweep, the Baltimore Orioles now host another AL East opponent, this time the Tampa Bay Rays.

Lets just get this out of the way. Adley Rutchman is not playing this series, and he will not play the next series. When will he be called up? There truly is no clue. So let’s just forget about that.

For the Orioles that are playing, a resurgence of the offense we saw in game four of that Yankees series will need to be in play for this three-game set.

Jalen Beeks starts the series against the Orioles, followed by Jeffrey Springs and Corey Kluber. For our Birds, it will be Tyler Wells, Kyle Bradish and Spenser Watkins.

Pitching will be a main factor in this one, as we’ve seen that become the trend at Camden Yards, as weird as that is to say. Only one of the starts for the Orioles in the Yankees series was a quality start, and that will need to improve.

❌-Factor

Our -Factor for this series is the O’s bullpen. Against a team that will throw out some ridiculously filthy bullpen arms, the arms in our bullpen have to match up.

It is likely the Orioles won’t get six or seven runs for their starter, so the pressure falls on the bullpen to keep games close when it gets late. They did a great job of this against the Yankees, however, it resulted in a few one-run losses due to lack of offense.

Game 1 Starting Lineup:

Roster Moves:

It was announced earlier today that left-hander Logan Allen has cleared outright waivers and has been assigned to Triple-A Norfolk. This comes after the promotion of left-hander Nick Vespi.

These three games cap off a short home stand, and, hopefully, the Orioles can end it on a good note. Ryan Mountcastle will be able to return to play Saturday, and that will play a big role for the Birds in this series.

You can catch each game on MASN or on your local Orioles Radio Network station.
