One of the coolest things about baseball is when your favorite team gets to go play against a team you seldom see them play. This is the case with this Orioles vs. Cardinals matchup taking place at Busch Stadium III in St. Louis.
This inter-league matchup will look a little different, as it’s the first time the Orioles will play in a National League stadium with a designated hitter. That is a benefit because the Oriole offense has finally begun to come around as of late.
The offense was 8-for-29 with RISP in the previous series and tallied 14 runs in three games. Not great, but mixed with the excellent pitching, it’s much improved.
Kyle Bradish leads the Orioles on the mound to start game one, and he’s followed by Spenser Watkins in game two and a to-be-determined starter in game three.
Bradish is still in search of his first career win, and for it to come in this one will be a feat, as it will be against a few future Hall of Famers in Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina and the scorching hot Nolan Arenado.
Offensively, the team will be led in this series by Austin Hays, who has been on an absolute tear as of late. In his current six-game hitting streak, Hays is 10-for-21 with a whopping 17 total bases. He currently sits at a .327 average and a .903 OPS.
The Baltimore Battery’s ❌-Factor for this series is simple: Defense.
Too many times this year a good start has gone out the window due to poor defense leading to unearned runs. The Cardinals as a team are excellent on defense. That being said, giving any extra outs to a team who will in no way do the same for us will be killer. Matching up with this team defensively will put our pitching in a much better position against a very good yet relatively unknown lineup of the Orioles.
