The Orioles have completed their Major League coaching staff, as the team promoted Ryan Fuller and hired Matt Borgschulte to be co-hitting coaches.
Fuller was Double-A Bowie’s hitting coach and full-season hitting coordinator last season. The 31-year-old was hired two years ago to serve as hitting coach at low Single-A Delmarva, before eventually getting the promotion to Bowie.
The Connecticut native was hired from a facility in the state called Power in Training and has been a integral part in the revamping of the hitting philosophy throughout our organization.
Fuller has limited experience in the big leagues as a player, appearing in just 32 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012.
Borgschulte, 31, served as an assistant coach at Drury University in 2014 and assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State University in 2015-16. He joined the staffs of the Palm Beach Cardinals in 2017, Gulf Coast League Twins in 2018 and Fort Myers Miracle in 2019.
A St. Louis product, Borgschulte worked as hitting coach with the Triple-A St. Paul Saints.
The duo will replace Don Long, who was informed after the season that he wouldn’t return after three seasons with the team. José Hernández remains in the organization and is going to fill a variety of roles. However, his title of assistant hitting coach no longer exists.
The Baysox now have two openings with Fuller leaving and manager Buck Britton expected to receive a well-deserved promotion to Triple-A Norfolk.
The current Major League coaching staff is as follows:
Brandon Hyde – Manager
Ryan Fuller – Co-hitting Coach
Matt Borgschulte – Co-hitting Coach
Chris Holt – Pitching Coach
Darren Holmes – Assistant Pitching Coach
Anthony Sanders – First Base Coach/Outfield Instructor
Tony Mansolino – Third Base Coach/Infield Instructor
Fredi González – Major League Coach
José Hernández – Major League Coach
Tim Cossins – Major League Field Coordinator/Catching Instructor
