Lord Mountcastle: MLB Pipeline 2021 All-Rookie

A year that saw struggles throughout the season for the Orioles saw highlights that made fans see the O’s rebuild is gaining steam along the long journey.

With All-Star Cedric Mullins having a historic campaign, Trey Mancini a virtual lock for the Comeback Player of the Year Award, all eyes turned toward Ryan “Lord” Mountcastle having a season that would garner Rookie of the Year consideration.

Mountcastle would not disappoint in placing himself amongst those talks, but before that award winner could be named, Mountcastle has won another honor for his outstanding rookie season.

Mountcastle has been named to MLB Pipeline’s 2021 All-Rookie First Team as the designated hitter representative. After crashing onto the scene last season in a small spot, Mountcastle would follow up a short stint with a major season that included breaking Cal Ripken Jr.’s rookie team home run record and picking up MLB June Rookie of the Month honors.

Ryan would end up batting .255 on the year, with 33 home runs to go with 89 runs batted in. He would slug .487 and score 77 runs, while flashing some speed by stealing four bases as well.

Lord Mountcastle would lead all rookies in home runs and would finish second in RBI to Rangers outfielder Adolis GarcĂa’s 90. He would also finish with 260 total bases.

Starting 84 games at first and 21 games in left field, Mountcastle would go on to have only one error at each position, as he showed he has the defense to back up his big bat. Mountcastle has the versatility to play various positions but seems to have cemented himself as the mainstay at first base for the Orioles going forward.

We are sure many other awards will grace Mountcastle’s wall during his career, but for now, his accomplishments are definitely nothing short of a star in the making. We at The Baltimore Battery would like to congratulate Ryan for his selection!
