As the big league club starts to audition players for next year, there is some watch for present Orioles, who could be in the running for some hardware. Until the season ends, we will not know, but we will be hoping.
As for the minor leagues, the hardware just keeps adding up, as our system looks to prove itself as the top farm in baseball.
Let’s start with the Florida Complex League Player of the Month, Mishael Deson. The 6’4″ young man from the Dominican Republic put up an outstanding August to take home the honors.
Deson batted an astounding .429, with 26 hits, six for extra bases, including three round trippers. He also was 8-for-10 on stolen base attempts, while carrying a 1.102 OPS. For the season, he is batting .369, with only 23 strikeouts in 103 at-bats. He has 38 hits in 32 games to go with 16 runs batted in and 11 steals in 13 attempts.
Deson’s skills didn’t lend only to offense, as he had no errors in 12 games in left field. He has committed only one error all season across 23 games between left and center field.
The awards didn’t stop there, however, as we move up to Low-A Delmarva. The Shorebirds have been exciting to watch, as new draft picks have entered the lineup and have made for some fun and exciting baseball in Salisbury.
Jean Pinto is the newest member of the Low-A East Pitcher of the Month club and is another reason the young crop is full of fun players like him.
Pinto appeared in five games as a starter and posted a 1.35 ERA across the month of August. Though not picking up a decision, Pinto managed to pitch 26.2 innings, allowing only 13 hits. Giving up just five runs (four ER), Pinto struck out 29 and walked only six during his stretch.
For the season, Pinto has pitched in 11 games to a 1-2 record, with a 1.95 ERA. He has 65 punch outs across 50.2 innings and is carrying a WHiP of 0.77.
Of course, no minor league awards would be complete without Adley Rutschman making the list! The No. 1 prospect for the Orioles, and in all of baseball, has been awarded the Orioles Minor League Player of the Month.
Rutschman has continued to impress in each level he has appeared in, all but making his big league debut an exciting one to anticipate.
For the month of August, Rutschman batted .369 across 24 games. He produced 31 hits, including three home runs and 11 runs batted in at the plate. As always, his plate discipline was on par, as he added another seven walks as well.
For the season, Adley is batting .288 across two levels, while leading the Orioles organization with 19 home runs and 63 runs batted in. As he keeps showing, not only will his presence and leadership be valued behind the plate, but at the plate, his offense will be a big contribution to this future Orioles team.
Here at The Baltimore Battery, we would like to congratulate Jean Pinto, Misheal Deson, and Adley Rutschman on their accolades, as we look forward for more from these future stars to be! Our pipeline is exciting, and the talent is reaching our club quickly!
The awards are stacking up in our minor league teams, as they make their way up to shine for the Big Birds!
