After suffering a high ankle sprain against the Miami Marlins April 20, Orioles right fielder Anthony Santander will join the Double-A Bowie Baysox tomorrow on his first rehab assignment since his injury.
Santander was sliding back into the first base bag on a pick off attempt when he suffered the injury. Thankfully, no significant damage was done, despite Santander being helped off the field.
Before the injury, Santander was scuffling at the plate, hitting just .196/.230/.321 with two homers and eight RBI in 16 games.
The former Rule 5 pick will join a Bowie team that is off to a hot start to the season and one that includes a plethora of O’s Top-30 prospects, including Adley Rutschman and D.L. Hall.
According to MASN’s Roch Kubatko, Santander will see time in both the outfield and as the designated hitter for Bowie. Although there is no set timetable for his return, expect to see Tony back in the O’s lineup within the next week.
You can catch Anthony and the rest of the Bowie Baysox on MiLB.TV, where you can stream every single Double-A game this season.
