Tides lose 4 of 6 against Jacksonville in opening series: Weekly Recap 5/4/21 – 5/9/21

The Norfolk Tides took a series loss in the opening week of the minor league season, taking two out of six games against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

The pitching was the main struggle in this series, as Norfolk was outscored 44 to 30. Although this was the case, there were a few notable appearances from Norfolk arms.

Manny Barreda threw four scoreless innings over two games out of the pen, striking out four. Marcos Diplán also pitched in two games, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings, while striking out five.

There were a few offensive sparks as well. Top-30 prospect Jahmai Jones hit a homer and drove in five, while fellow Top-30 prospect Tyler Nevin hit two long balls and drove in four.

The Orioles’ No. 8 overall prospect, Yusniel Díaz, also hit his first home run at the Triple-A level and drove in six.
