Orioles vs. Red Sox: Lineups & Notes 3/24/21

Boy, did the Birds look good yesterday! Coming off a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Rays, the O’s look to continue their success against another A.L. East rival, the Boston Red Sox.

The offense stood out the most in yesterday’s ballgame, as both Trey Mancini and newly-signed Maikel Franco both hit two-run home runs. And let me tell you… Franco’s was an absolute bomb!

The pitching was good for the most part, as Cesar Valdez went three innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts. Someone who Birdland might not be quite familiar with yet is righty reliever Connor Greene, but he shined in the game yesterday, going three innings and striking out three without giving up a run.

Dillon Tate struggled, however, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He would only go 0.2 innings in this one. Travis Lakins Sr. was sharp, as he pitched the final two innings of the game, striking out two without allowing a hit.

Looking towards tonight’s game against Boston, we get to see another appearance of young Dean Kremer, who will make the start in Fort Myers. Although pitching to a 7.36 ERA and giving up nine earned runs, Kremer has struck out 11 batters in just as many innings this spring.

The O’s game notes lists pitchers Eric Hanhold, Zac Lowther, Konner Wade, Marcos Diplan, Evan Phillips, Cody Carroll and Mickey Jannis as available to go tonight.

The Red Sox will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound tonight, and talk about a person who’s struggling this spring. Eovaldi has given up 11 earned runs on 17 hits in just 9.1 innings of work. That is a 10.61 ERA, if anyone was wondering.

In other news, the Orioles have released a handful of minor leaguers today. The players that have been released by the organization are listed in this picture below.
