Orioles vs. Rays: Lineups & Notes 3/23/21

After a close game loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday afternoon, the O’s return home to Ed Smith Stadium to play the reigning American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays.

In yesterday’s game, the offense looked ready for Opening Day. Freddy Galvis drove in two, going 2-for-3, while RBI doubles from Cedric Mullins, Pedro Severino, and Rio Ruiz all helped the team keep the game close from the start.

As for the pitching, the only expected pitcher to break camp with the team started the ballgame, John Means. It was a bit of a bumpy outing for the Opening Day starter, as Means went 3.2 innings, striking out three, walking three, and giving up (you guessed it) three earned runs.

The first spring training game to air on MASN this year will be officially a bullpen game, as Cesar Valdez will get the opportunity to start this afternoon. The 36-year-old has only pitched in two games this spring at an inning each. But in those two innings, Valdez has struck out five batters.

The Rays will start righty Trevor Richards, who has had a rocky spring thus far. In his two outings (three innings total), Richards has given up four earned runs and struck out five.

Here are today’s starting lineups:

1. Francisco Mejia C
