Orioles vs. Pirates: Lineups & Notes 3/22/21

The O’s make one last trip to Bradenton, FL, today to play the Pittsburgh Pirates in spring training action.

Yesterday, the Birds were bested by the Minnesota Twins 12-7 in another high scoring affair. Ryan Mountcastle had another great day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI double. Pedro Severino had a solo home run of his own, and newly acquired Maikel Franco had a two-run double in three at-bats.

The pitching was a little shaky in yesterday’s game, as every Orioles pitcher gave up at least one run; the only exception was Tanner Scott, who pitched to and got out one batter to end the fourth inning.

The O’s look to get their pitching under control today, as the ace John Means takes the mound. The Opening Day starter has pitched 11.2 innings this spring, striking out eight batters and pitching to a 5.40 ERA, in a short sample size of four games we might add. The Pirates will start their young ace, Mitch Keller.

After Means, Brandon Hyde has a list of arms scheduled to pitch today, including Fernando Abad, Isaac Mattson, Mickey Jannis, Jay Flaa, and Spenser Watkins.
