Ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally here! The first game of spring training us upon us, and with that gives us our first lineup of the 2021 baseball season!
The big story of today is the return of Trey Mancini, who will be playing first base, and baseball in general, for the first time in over a year after batting colon cancer.
What a feel good moment for not just Birdland, but Major League Baseball all together. Congratulations on your return, Trey!
Thomas Eshelman will make the first start of spring for the O’s, as he looks to make the 26-man roster as either a starter or long relief option out of the bullpen. The Pirates will send Chad Kuhl to the mound.
The Orioles are planning to tab a long slate of non-roster relievers behind Eshelman in today’s opener. The list includes:
LHP Fernando Abad
RHP Eric Hanhold
LHP Josh Rogers
RHP Isaac Mattson
RHP Marcos Diplan
RHP Conner Greene
Here is your Orioles lineup for the first game of spring training:
1. Cedric Mullins CF
2. Trey Mancini 1B
3. Anthony Santander RF
4. Pedro Severino C
5. Chris Davis DH
6. Freddy Galvis SS
7. Yusniel Díaz LF
8. Yolmer Sánchez 2B
9. Rylan Bannon 3B
SP. Thomas Eshelman RHP
Today’s game will begin at approximately 1:05 p.m. EST., and it will be only 8 innings. Fans can catch all the action via the Pirates radio broadcast on KDKA-FM 93.7.
