The Aberdeen IronBirds released their schedule today for the 2021 season in the newly established, 12-team High-A East. The team opens the season on May 4, visiting the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Nationals).
The IronBirds spend the first two weeks on the road before returning home on May 18. Aberdeen will play 120 games between May 4 and September 19, with every Monday being an off day. In past seasons, the IronBirds have played only 76 totals games.
2021 will mark the first time in 43 years that the IronBirds (formerly the Utica Blue Sox) will not compete in the New-York Penn League. Of the move, Aberdeen General Manager Jack Graham stated:
“The IronBirds can’t wait to begin a new era in professional baseball in Aberdeen. More baseball at a higher level will mean a better experience at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium, with the same family-friendly, affordable options that Harford County has come to know and love.”IronBirds GM Jack Graham
The IronBirds, owned by Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr., is currently working on a plan to space season ticket holders throughout the stadium in compliance with MLB and Maryland’s social distancing laws and regulations.
