“King” Félix is an Oriole… take a moment, and let that sink in!
The former Cy Young winner is signing a minor league contract with the O’s to revive his career after last pitching in 2019.
The 34-year-old right-hander opted out of the 2020 season after beginning the year on Atlanta’s roster. His contract with Baltimore can be worth up to $1 million.
Hernández, a six-time All-Star, has been one of the most dominant pitchers of this generation. The Venezuela-native spent 15 seasons with the Seattle Mariners and recorded a career 3.42 ERA, while accumulating a 169-136 record.
Baltimore is a quick and easy route for Hernández to make it back to the majors. The team recently traded Alex Cobb and just re-signed Wade LeBlanc. Starts will be open for the taking barring a surprise season from the current starters on Baltimore’s roster.
Only time will tell if Hernández has some juice left after many years of dominant pitching for Seattle.
Ladies and gentlemen, let’s all welcome “King” Félix Hernández to Birdland!
