According to Roch Kubatko of MASN, shortstop Richie Martin will undergo surgery on a broken hamate bone in his left wrist.
After missing all of 2020 with a broken right wrist, Martin gets bit by the injury bug again, but this time not as severe. He is expected to be out five weeks and should return to play by March.
Fortunately for the Orioles, veteran shortstop Freddy Galvis was signed to a one-year deal Tuesday, and he will presumably be the starter come Opening Day.
Martin will likely begin the season in Triple-A Norfolk to continue developing his offense.
