Orioles vs. Red Sox lineup: 9/23/2020

The Orioles’ defense failed them in last evening’s 8-3 loss, as the Red Sox scored two runs on three errors, and Evan Phillips gave up three runs without getting an out. With the loss, the Orioles have been officially eliminated from playoff contention at 23-32 with five games left in the season.

Tonight, the Orioles send exciting young right-hander Dean Kremer to the mound against Nathan Eovaldi and the Red Sox. Kremer, acquired in the trade that sent Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018, has gone 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA in three starts. He has yet to give up more than one run in any of his three starts and has struck out 20 batters in 16 innings, while walking nine.

Eovaldi is 3-2 on the season with a 4.25 ERA in eight starts this seasons. The Orioles have faced Eovaldi twice this season, losing both games, while scoring only two runs against him in 13 innings. In his career, Renato Núñez has had great success against Eovaldi, going 7-for-12 with two home runs and seven RBI.

In Orioles roster news, the team has recalled RHP Branden Kline from the Alternate Training site at Double-A Bowie and placed RHP Evan Phillips on the 10-day injured list with elbow inflammation.

The lineup for the Orioles is as follows:

  1. Cedric Mullins (S) CF
