The Orioles visit the New York Mets Tuesday evening, kicking off a two-game series to start the road trip.
Coming off an impressive three-game win streak against the Yankees, the Orioles (19-21) have eyes on the back of the Yanks (21-19), who stand just two games ahead for the final Wild Card spot.
The O’s young pitchers and bullpen shined over the weekend, with Keegan Akin and Dean Kremer combining for 9.1 IP, with one run allowed between the two. With a bullpen that was lights out, the Orioles stifled the Yankee offense while supplying just enough of their own.
John Means will be on the mound tonight, looking to lower his 8+ ERA. Maybe the emergence of Akin and Kremer will kick start something, as Means has been lack luster thus far. With his longest outing being 5.1 innings, Means must be able to eat some innings tonight, as the Orioles begin a streak of 14 games over the next 13 days.
Here is the Orioles lineup for tonight’s matchup against the Mets:
1. Hanser Alberto (R) 2B
2. José Iglesias (R) SS
3. Renato Núñez (R) DH
4. Pedro Severino (R) C
5. Ryan Mountcastle (R) LF
6. DJ Stewart (L) RF
7. Pat Valaika (R) 1B
8. Rio Ruiz (L) 3B
9. Cedric Mullins (S) CF
SP: John Means LHP
In other news, the Orioles have reinstated Chris Davis from the Injured List and have designated Dillson Herrera for assignment.
