The Orioles come off a doubleheader against the Yankees on Friday where they were finally able to snap the losing streak against the Yankees that stood at 19.
However, the Orioles lost much more, as right fielder Anthony Santander was placed on the I.L. with an oblique strain. This injury will take weeks to heal and will most likely end Santander’s season.
Due to this injury, Mason Williams has been recalled, and we will likely see DJ Stewart in right field.
Keegan Akin will get his second start of his career today, pitching opposite of Gerrit Cole, who makes as much money in one game as Akin likely has in his career.
Akin will face probably the hardest lineup he has seen, consisting of three Oriole killers in the top of the Yankees lineup (Aaron Hicks, Luke Voit, and Gleyber Torres).
Here is the Orioles lineup for tonight:
1. Hanser Alberto (R) 2B
2. Chance Sisco (L) DH
3. José Iglesias (R) SS
4. Pedro Severino (R) C
5. Ryan Mountcastle (R) LF
6. Rio Ruiz (L) 3B
7. Pat Valaika (R) 1B
8. DJ Stewart (L) RF
9. Mason Williams (L) CF
SP: Keegan Akin LHP
In other news, the Orioles made many moves on this Saturday. These moves include optioning RHP Evan Phillips to the Alternate Site and recalling RHP David Hess.
Also, the Orioles claimed RHP Carson Fulmer off waivers from the Pirates. In 2020, Fulmer has seen seven games, where he’s pitched in 6.2 innings, holding a 6.75 ERA with a WHIP of 1.65.
Some exciting news for the Orioles is adding infielder Rylan Bannon to the 60-man player pool. This fills both the roster and player pool, at 40 and 60 players respectively.
