After stringing together a nice six-game win streak, the Orioles took one on the chin last evening, losing to the Nationals 15-3. The Birds will look to return to the win column tonight, as they send Asher Wojciechowski to the mound to face Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin.
Wojciechowski comes into the game with an 0-2 record; however, the 31-year-old right-hander has pitched well this year, with a 3.95 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 13.1 innings.
In his last start, Wojciechowski went 3.2 innings against the Nationals without giving up a run and striking out four. The Orioles certainly need Wojciechoski to go deeper into this game to get some relief for their taxed bullpen.
Leftys find more success against Wojciechoski, with an OPS of 167 points higher than rightys. Current Nationals are batting .273 against Wojciechowski, with one home run. Juan Soto has had particular success, going 3-for-7 with a home run.
Corbin brings a 2.50 ERA into the game with 20 strikeouts in 18 innings. In his last start, Corbin went six innings against the Mets, striking out four and giving up two runs, one earned.
Left-handed batters hit only .228 against Corbin, while rightys bat .259. This is why we see only one lefty in the lineup, Rio Ruiz. Current Orioles are hitting .286 against Corbin in 28 at-bats.
In other Orioles news today, the team activated RHP Jorge López from the injured list. He will wear number 48. The Orioles also placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list with a non-displaced rib fracture. The team has recalled outfielder Cedric Mullins from the Alternate Training Site in Bowie.
