According to Dan Connolly of The Athletic, shortstop Richie Martin fractured his right wrist during an intersquad game Friday.
The injury came when Martin dove into first base, initially thinking it was just right hand soreness.
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said there is no time table for Martin’s return, although he is expected to start the season on the injury list. With the injury to Martin, this helps the chances for infielders Pat Valaika and Andrew Velazquez to earn a spot on the 30-man roster.
Along with Trey Mancini, who is still recovering from chemotherapy, the Orioles will be down another starter come Opening Day. As more news comes out about the injury to Richie Martin, The Baltimore Battery will keep fans updated.
