Former Orioles favorite Adam Jones heads to Japan

Throughout the long history of the Baltimore Orioles, few have had an impact on the team and community like Adam Jones had. After one season in Arizona in 2019 that followed an 11-year reign in Baltimore, the San Diego native has agreed to a two-year contract with the Orix Buffaloes.

At age 34, Jones believed he still had value as a player that MLB did not see. Luckily for Jones, the NPB saw this value and got their man. The Orix Buffaloes signed Jones to a two-year deal, worth $8.2 million with an option for a third year.

For 11 years, Jones was a staple of the Baltimore Orioles. Continually on and off the field, Jones proved himself as a valuable asset to Baltimore. Playing a huge part in the Orioles turn into a contender in 2012, Jones gave all he had to this team and the city.

In his major league career, Jones recorded a .277 average, with 282 HRs and 945 RBI. Looking at those numbers, it’s easy to see why Orix saw value in Jones.

This opportunity presented to Jones is once in a lifetime, and as a huge Adam Jones fan, I am incredibly happy for him and his family. The NPB, the Orix Buffaloes, and Japan in general have gained an amazing guy to represent their league and country.

From everyone here at The Baltimore Battery and in Baltimore alike, we all wish Adam Jones the best of luck in this huge part of his career! Make us proud in Japan, Jonsey!
