The list of Baltimore Orioles to enter free agency has begun, as Sean Gilmartin, Jace Peterson, and Jesus Sucre have all become free agents.
Gilmartin, 29, only made one appearance for the Orioles in 2019, where he went 0-1 with a horrendous 19.29 ERA.
In that game, Gilmartin started and went just 2.1 innings, giving up five earned runs off seven hits. He gave up two home runs and walked two.
Jace Peterson, 29, played in 29 games with the O’s this past season, in which he hit .220/.269/.330 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 108 plate appearances.
Peterson was a solid utility player for the club and gave them much-needed depth. Although his bat really never sparked, Peterson provided solid defense in both the infield and outfield.
Jesus Sucre, 31, was the starting catcher for the Orioles on Opening Day and was originally No. 1 on the depth chart to begin the season, until being sent down to Triple-A Norfolk to make room for Chance Sisco.
Sucre would end up playing just 20 games for the Orioles in 2019. He ended his tenure with a slash line of .210/.269/.242 with just three RBI on the year.
To say Sucre was a disappointment is an understatement, but for a club in the first year of a rebuild, he was a filler at the catcher position.
Obviously, the Orioles are not looking to bring back any of these players, mainly due to their older age. The one guy that might have a chance to return to the Orioles organization is Gilmartin for pitching depth between Norfolk and the O’s.
Although they hadn’t spent much time with the major league club, we’d like to thank Sean Gilmartin, Jace Peterson, and Jesus Sucre for representing the Orioles organization!
