For Baltimore Orioles fans, the 2019 season was a time of change, heartache, and hope for the future.
When fans witness another 100-plus loss season, it’s hard to find that light at the end of the tunnel. It’s difficult to watch at times because you are almost sure that there is no chance of winning. The Baltimore Orioles organization understands this.
The Orioles know first-hand how their fans feel in this rebuilding time period. They know the struggle that comes with it, so the team decided to send season ticket holders hand-written thank-you notes to show their gratitude for supporting them throughout the year.
Relief pitcher Tanner Scott wrote this message to a season ticket holder named Bill, admitting that the team has work to do moving forward.
“We thank you for the support this year. This season has been a growing year for all of us and we are going to continue to work hard to achieve success for us as a team and for you as the fans who support us. #Birdland. Thank you, Tanner Scott.”
In response to this kind and heart-warming gesture, we at The Baltimore Battery would like to write our own personal “thank-you letter” to the Baltimore Orioles organization.
Dear Baltimore Orioles players, coaching staff, & front office,
We the fans would like to thank you for all the hard work you have done during the 2019 season. In the first year of this rebuild, we have experienced a lot of negativity. But we know that negativity will lead to that light at the end of the tunnel. Going into a completely revamped system was different for us. We were lucky enough to enjoy five straight seasons of winning baseball in Baltimore. We realize it was time for change in this organization. We recognize the constant effort the front office put in to try and lead this team back to its winning ways. From drafting the best overall talent in this year’s draft, to hiring a great coaching staff and minor league coordinators, you are putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. Our farm system went from one of the worst in all of baseball to the top 10 best. This will be key to the future of this organization. To the players, thank you for putting on the orange and black uniforms day in and day out, traveling across the country, and playing your hardest every time you laced up your cleats and stepped on that field. Even though it looked rough at times, you all never gave up. Yes, we know it will be a tough stretch in the coming years, but we recognize the progress being made. We will cheer you in your highest highs and your lowest lows. Just know that we are all standing with you during this process. Thank you for another great season of Orioles baseball. May Birdland stand tall for years to come.
The Baltimore Battery & Birdland fans everywhere
