When the Baltimore Orioles take the field to begin the 2026 season, the ball will be handed to left-hander Trevor Rogers — a pitcher who earned the assignment through one of the most dominant seasons by an O’s starter in recent memory.
For Baltimore, Rogers’ selection reflects the confidence the organization has in the 28-year-old following a remarkable 2025 campaign.
Rogers was exceptional last season, finishing with a 9–3 record, a 1.81 ERA, 103 strikeouts and a 0.90 WHIP across 109.2 innings in 18 starts.
Rogers consistently limited baserunners while generating swings and misses, striking out more than a batter per inning during the season. Opposing hitters struggled to square up his fastball-changeup combination, which allowed him to control games deep into outings and keep pressure off the O’s bullpen.
The turnaround was particularly notable considering Rogers’ previous season. In 2024, he posted a 4.92 ERA over 124.1 innings, as he was even optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, a stark contrast to the elite production he delivered in 2025.
Manager Craig Albernaz and the Orioles’ coaching staff now turn to Rogers to lead a rotation that expects to play a major role in the club’s pursuit of postseason success.
By awarding Rogers the Opening Day start, the Orioles are making a clear statement: their breakout left-hander is no longer just part of the rotation — he is at the front of it. If his 2025 performance is any indication, Baltimore may be placing that trust in exactly the right pitcher.
The Orioles open the 2026 regular season on March 26 against the Minnesota Twins from Oriole Park at Camden Yards. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. EST, with pre-game ceremonies beginning around 2:30.
