With two days remaining before the Baltimore Orioles open Grapefruit League play against the New York Yankees, the work continued inside camp.
Day three of full-squad workouts featured the return of Andrew Kittredge to live batting practice, alongside Cade Povich and José De León.
Kittredge faced four hitters, allowing a single to Taylor Ward and a walk to Tyler O’Neill before inducing flyouts from Pete Alonso and Leody Taveras. It was a brief but encouraging first step in his spring progression.
Povich logged two innings of live work. He surrendered a single and a walk in his first frame, then allowed a home run to Blaze Alexander in his second. Outside of that, he retired the remainder of his hitters and struck out Taveras in the process.
“I felt really good,” Povich said. “Just trying to execute some things that I’ve been working on coming out of last year and feeling healthy, which is, I think, the biggest thing. Just trying to use the lives to work on some things and just kind of get that competitive pitcher versus hitter battles back.”
Though primarily developed as a starter, Povich reiterated his willingness to fill any role the club needs.
Whatever spot they need me in for this team and to help this team, I’m going to listen and do as they say and give my 100 percent no matter what.”
De León faced three batters, allowing a single, an extra-base hit and a walk. On the back fields, Albert Suárez, Richard Gausch and Eric Torres also threw live sessions.
Defensively, Coby Mayo and Weston Wilson continued to work at third base, with Gunnar Henderson and Luis Vázquez at shortstop. Blaze Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson rotated at second, while Jackson Holliday observed from the side.
Holliday is scheduled to have stitches removed Monday but remains without a timetable to resume full baseball activities.
“It feels great,” Holliday said. “They say it looks great. I don’t know. I looked at it the first time and I’m like, ‘I don’t know if that looks right,’ and they were like, ‘Oh no, it’s fine, it’s fine.’ According to them it looks great and it feels great. Mobility. Just excited to get back after it.”
SIDE NOTES:
- Adam Jones is in camp as a special guest instructor through Feb. 28.
- Manager Craig Albernaz will wait until Thursday to name a starter for Friday’s spring exhibition opener. Albernaz also said not to read too much into the lineups during the spring games.
- It was both Jordan Westburg and Ryan Mountcastle’s birthdays today.
With nine days of camp complete, the Orioles have one workout remaining before games begin. Multiple players continue to receive reps at different positions, and the club still awaits live sessions from Chris Bassitt and Jackson Kowar.
Will we see them tomorrow, or will we wait until games start to see them make their Orioles debuts? Make sure to come back tomorrow for the final edition of SpringNotes 2026.
