As the Baltimore Orioles continue to round out its coaching staff, each name comes with a spark of memories for baseball fans.

The organization’s latest hire should certainly bring back some of those memories from the 2010s, as the Birds are bringing in former big league catcher Hank Conger to be the team’s bullpen coach.

Conger, 37, is a former first-round pick (25th overall) of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. While he managed to hang on for a six-year playing career, he never could quite become a mainstay.

Conger managed to play for four organizations and three big league teams, plus one independent league team. He ended his playing career slashing .221/.294/.366 with 31 home runs and 114 RBIs across 373 games.

After his playing career, Conger went to the Korean League as a catching coach in 2019, where he remained for two seasons.

Conger would return to the Twins organization in 2021 as a first base and catching coach and would hold that position until November of this year when he was relieved of his duties.

The organization also announced the hiring of new assistant hitting coach, Brady North.

North, 34, had the same role for four seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays. He worked as hitting coach for Tampa Bay’s rookie league team in 2019 while O’s skipper Craig Albernaz was minor league field coordinator and moved up to High-A Bowling Green in 2021.

North never played affiliated ball, as he spent 2015-16 in the independent Frontier League, totaling 30 games as a first baseman and left fielder. He slashed .240/.341/.383 in one season at Jacksonville University.

The Orioles’ staff also includes new additions in bench coach Donnie Ecker, hitting coach Dustin Lind, first base coach Jason Bourgeois, infield coach Miguel Cairo and field coordinator/catching coach Joe Singley.

We would like to welcome both Hank Conger and Brady North to the Baltimore Orioles and wish them the best of luck in helping guide the Birds to success.
