With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching, various different charities and organizations look to help those in food deserts and impoverished areas get assistance.

The government shutdown lasted a record number of days and federal cuts to food and health assistance affected many who struggled to make ends meet.

As the government is re-opening, that number is still set to grow, as programs still await funding or decisions on whether they will be cut or closed all together.

In light of the upcoming holiday, the All Faiths Food Bank is going to hold its annual ThankFULL holiday campaign across Sarasota county once again.

The ThankFULL campaign helps provide distributions for 4.1 million holiday meals. It is a three-month fundraising campaign that helps produce 14,500 turkeys for distribution .

With the delays of food benefits, the food giveaways help provide turkey and trimmings for families in need.

“The relief you see on people’s faces as they realize their family will be able to enjoy a festive holiday meal together is palpable.”

All Faiths President and CEO Nelle S. Miller

The Baltimore Orioles partnered with the All Faiths Food Bank on Wednesday, November 19, at Ed Smith Stadium, just in time for the holidays.

In 2024, the campaign successfully distributed more than 13,000 turkeys and other side dishes to families across various locations, with a significant portion of the distributions taking place at the Ed Smith Stadium campus. Orioles staff, as part of the Orange & Black Gives Back employee volunteer program, will also be on-site to assist.

All Faiths’ mobile pantry sites and partner agencies, including sites like schools and youth-serving non-profits, will also have additional turkey distributions through Thanksgiving.

“I look forward to these distributions each year, knowing that the joy of the holiday season will be felt in thousands of homes in our community, thanks to the generosity of all who contribute to our ThankFULL campaign,” Miller said.

The All Faiths Food Bank is the only and largest food bank in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. It provides millions of meals each year in collaboration with over 300 agencies and programs throughout the community. Its works to end hunger by helping families and individuals gain long-term food security, achieve self-sufficiency and enjoy better food outcomes.

“Each turkey, each meal represents hope and kindness in action,” Miller said. “Together, we can make sure every table is full this Thanksgiving.”
