The Baltimore Orioles’ coaching staff is taking shape and coming together with a purpose.

Announced over the weekend, the Orioles are hiring former major leaguer and Washington Nationals interim manager Miguel Cairo as the team’s major league infield coach.

Cairo spent 17 years as a player before getting involved with coaching. Over 1,279 games, playing all positions except center field and catcher, Cairo committed only 90 errors during his tenure and played for nine different teams before retiring in 2012.

Jumping into coaching, Cairo’s first role was a special assistant for the Cincinnati Reds in 2013. From there, he would become the New York Yankees minor league infield coordinator from 2018-2020.

From 2021 through the 2022 season, Cairo was the bench coach for the Chicago White Sox ,where twice he filled in for Tony LaRussa as manager. The New York Mets then hired the Venezuelan native to be their minor league infield coordinator for the 2023 season.

In November of 2023, Cairo was hired as the Washington Nationals bench coach and became their interim manager on July 7, 2025, after Dave Martinez was fired.

Cairo will provide a veteran voice for both Albernaz and the O’s players, as most of the coaches are younger than the 51-year-old.

Along with the hiring of Cairo, the Orioles also announced the hiring of Wilmington, DE, native Joe Singley to be the team’s major league field coordinator and catching coach.

Singley was the Miami Marlins catching coach and the assistant director of catching this past season.

The 28-year-old played at Coastal Carolina before shoulder injuries, that led to four surgeries, forced him to retire from playing. He was first hired by the Cincinnati Reds as an assistant catching coach and bullpen catcher in January of 2023 before moving to the Marlins.

Singley will replace Tim Cossins, who held the same position with the Orioles.

It was also announced that the Orioles will be retaining coaches Buck Britton as third base coach, pitching coach Drew French, bullpen coach Mitch Plassmeyer and pitching strategy coach Ryan Klimek.

We would like to welcome Miguel Cairo and Joe Singley to the Orioles organization and look forward to their knowledge in helping build the team into the contender Birdland has wanted for some time.
