While the Baltimore Orioles continue to make changes to round out their coaching staff for the 2026 season, the organization continues to also make changes inside the front office as well.
The most recent change is that of Matt Blood, the former vice president of player development and domestic scouting, a position in which he has held since October of 2023.
Blood’s new title will be vice president of player and staff development. In his new role he will aid new manager Craig Albernaz in major league staff and player development, while also providing support for performance departments and sports medicine. He will continue to oversee all aspects of minor league player development and operations.
Blood was originally hired as director of player development in September of 2019 by the Orioles. He had previously worked with the Texas Rangers as director of baseball innovation after serving three years as the USA Baseball U-18 team director.
Blood’s connection to president of baseball operations and acting general manager, Mike Elias, goes back to Blood’s days as an area scout with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he worked for seven seasons.
Other moves that happened before Blood’s promotion are as follows:
• Brendan Fournie from senior director of baseball strategy and operations to assistant general manager
• Will Roberson from director of pro personnel to vice president of domestic scouting
• Chad Tatum from manager of domestic scouting to assistant director of domestic scouting
• Hendrick Herz from manager of domestic scouting analysis to assistant director of draft operations
• Kevin Carter from manager of pro scouting to assistant director of pro scouting
We would like to congratulate Matt Blood and the other members on their promotions and wish them continued success within the organization moving forward.
