An area of concern the last three seasons for the Baltimore Orioles has been situational hitting and capitalizing with runners in scoring position.

After experimenting with dual hitting coaches for the last few seasons, nothing has seemed to click for an offense that, on paper, should be towards the top of Major League Baseball in production.

Looking to incorporate a new philosophy, it was announced that the Baltimore Orioles will hire Dustin Lind as the team’s new lead hitting coach.

Lind had worked with Albernaz in San Francisco with the Giants from 2020-2023 as the director of hitting and the assistant hitting coach.

The Bozeman, Montana, native spent the last two seasons working as the assistant hitting coach with the Philadelphia Phillies, a team that has been to the postseason the last two seasons, partially due to their potent offense.

Lind was a former college outfielder for Montana State University-Billings (2007-08) and Sierra College (2010-11) until injuries derailed his playing career. He then became an independent hitting consultant in 2014 for MLB, a job he held for four years.

The now-37-year-old broke into the coaching scene in 2018 with the Seattle Mariners, when was hired as their minor league quality assurance coach. He earned the position of director of hitting strategies and development in 2019 before departing to work with the Giants the following year.

Lind, who holds a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Montana, becomes the first coaching staff addition since Albernaz was hired as manager of the Birds in October.

Pitching coaches Drew French and Ryan Klimek, bullpen coach Rich Plassmeyer, third base coach Buck Britton, developmental advisor Grant Andes and major league coach John Mabry are still awaiting a decision on their futures, as the new coaching staff is rounded out.

We would like to welcome Dustin Lind to Baltimore and wish him success in his journey with the team.
