Anyone who knows Baltimore Orioles GM Mike Elias knows that he has an eye for finding talent when others don’t or can’t see it.

Many in Birdland were not thinking that way when Kyle Stowers was having a stellar first half of the 2025 season in Miami while Trevor Rogers was struggling in the minors, trying to come back from an offseason injury.

It is amazing how a year and a dislocated knee cap can change so much in such a short time. For Rogers, it was just what was needed to turn not only his season around but possibly save his career.

The Orioles announced Tuesday that the 2025 Louis M. Hatter Most Valuable Oriole, voted on by members of the local media who regularly cover the Orioles, is nonother than Mr. Rogers.

Let’s start from the beginning to see how Rogers got to this point in his remarkable 2025 campaign.

In January, it was reported that Rogers would miss the start of spring training due to a dislocated knee cap. This would push back any chances of trying to make the O’s rotation, one devastated and decimated by injuries for a majority of the season.

Much of Birdland already had a bad taste in its mouth after former top five prospect, outfielder Kyle Stowers, and former top five prospect, infielder Connor Norby, were traded to the Marlins for the then 26-year-old left-hander.

In his first four, and only four, starts after the trade was finalized, Rogers would yield 16 runs (15 earned) in just 19 innings of work, good for a 7.11 ERA. He would go 0-2 in those starts with a 1.84 WHIP, as opponents hit .338 against the southpaw.

Once called back to the big leagues in 2025, Rogers was going to make the most of it, and he has rewarded the Orioles with one of the most historic years in club history, posting the lowest ERA (1.35) by an Orioles starter through his first 17 starts of a season.

Rogers, with one start left to make this season, is currently 9-2 with that impeccable 1.35 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 100 strikeouts in 106.2 innings, which has helped him post a 6.0 bWAR this season.

The Carlsbad native leads MLB starters in ERA, BAA (.178), BR/9 (8.02), H/9 (5.65) and HR/9 (0.25). Rogers has also gone 15 consecutive outings allowing two runs or fewer.

Rogers becomes the fourth left-handed pitcher in Orioles history to win MVO, joining Randy Myers (1997), Mike Cuellar (1974) and Dave McNally (1968). He is also the first pitcher since Rodrigo López (2002) to be bestowed the honor.

Other members receiving votes for MVO include: interim manager Tony Mansolino, OF Dylan Beavers, OF Dylan Carlson, OF Colton Cowser, INF Gunnar Henderson, INF Jordan Westburg, INF Jackson Holliday, RHP Dean Kremer and RHP Tomoyuki Sugano.

We would like to congratulate Trevor Rogers on receiving this honor and for a historic season. The Orioles will hold an on-field ceremony on Tuesday for Rogers prior to their game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
