The trade season is in the final countdown, and the Baltimore Orioles continue to provide teams with strong players.

According to multiple industry sources, the Orioles are trading infielder Ramón Urías and cash considerations to the Houston Astros. Urías has one year left of control on his contract after this season.

Originally claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals, Urías became a utility staple, following in the footsteps of others such as Ryan Flaherty and Steve Pearce in Charm City.

Urías become a dependable presence that would provide capable offense, sneaky power and Gold Glove caliber defense.

Urías has played in at least 85 games per season since 2021 and has eclipsed 100 games or more the last three seasons, winning a Gold Glove at third base in 2022, when he would set career-highs in most categories.

Known more for that stellar defense, Urías has proven that when given consistent and extended playing time, he has offensive pop and can be a steady presence in any lineup. But it was versatility that cemented the legacy that the Ramón Empire would build in Baltimore.

With the ability to play each infield position, outside of catcher, and bring a steady, strong and quiet leadership to his play, Urías did his job any way he could to help the team, without friction, push-back or complaint.

Urías has played predominantly third base (361 games) in his career but has also spent time at first (18 games), second (83 games) and shortstop (61 games).

For his career, Urías is slashing .259/.324/.404/.728 through 506 games. He has totaled 410 hits, with 129 extra-base hits, including 76 doubles, six triples and 47 home runs, while driving in 131 runs.

The Astros, who are dealing with injuries to infielders Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes and intend to slot Urías in immediately, are sending 20-year-old right-hander Twine Palmer to the Birds in the return package.

Palmer is a 2024 19th-round pick out of Connors State Junior College. With a 3/4 arm slot release, the 6-foot-5 Palmer is 2-0 across 15 games (eight starts) this season, posting 2.62 ERA and a respectable 1.21 WHIP.

Palmer has worked 44.2 innings this year at the Single-A level, holding opponents to a .179/.304/.222/.526 slash line while striking out 48 batters and allowing just one home run.

While Birdland will miss Ramón Urías and wish him great success in his career going forward, we also would like to welcome Twine Palmer to Baltimore and look forward to seeing him grow.
