The Baltimore Orioles have been more active during this trade market than in the past few years combined.

Seeing half the bullpen traded and utility infielder Ramón Urías moved as well, the Orioles big-ticket names still remained, until now.

According to multiple industry sources, long-time O’s outfielder Cedric Mullins has been traded to the New York Mets for a trio of pitching prospects.

The return package for the Birds includes the Mets’ No. 14 prospect, right-hander Anthony Nunez, No. 30 prospect, righty Raimon Gomez and unranked right-hander Chandler Marsh.

Mullins is a Gold Glove caliber center fielder capable of making acrobatic catches and using his plus speed on the base paths. Though his offense has declined in the last couple of years, Mullins, who turns 31 in October, still can change a game with one swing.

Mullins won Most Valuable Oriole and a Silver Slugger Award in 2021 when he became the first Orioles player in franchise history to have a 30/30 season. Arguably his best offensive season, Mullins also collected 37 doubles and five triples while hitting .291 with an .878 OPS over 159 games.

For his career, Mullins is slashing .250/.318/.426/.744 across 784 games. He has totaled 101 home runs, 140 doubles and 20 triples while driving in 327 runs and stealing 139 bases.

Mullins has a .992 career fielding percentage in center field, with 24 outfield assists and nine double plays made.

As for the players joining the O’s organization, Anthony Nunez is a converted infielder who has a fastball that can touch 96 mph, while his low 90’s cutter has become a stronger pitch, which would work well out of the pen.

The 23-year-old’s best pitches, however, are his upper 80’s sweeper and low-to-mid 80’s changeup. Though he has a little less time on the mound, Nunez has progressed to Double-A ball rather quickly.

Raimon Gomez boasts an 80-grade fastball that has hit 104.5 mph, the fastest pitch in the statcast era for the minor leagues. As if his fastball wasn’t impressive enough, Gomez can kick in a slider that sits between 88-91 mph.

Having Tommy John Surgery in 2023, Gomez has returned after not pitching during the 2024 season. He has pitched in High-A ball working out of the bullpen.

The final piece in the trade is Chandler Marsh, who is a 22-year-old High-A pitcher. He has compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.53 ERA across 33 games this season.

We would like to thank Cedric Mullins for the memories, the defensive gems and the game-saving moments that helped ignite and bring a fan base together the last eight years.
