Headed into the 2025 season, many expected the Baltimore Orioles to be contenders and buyers at the trade deadline.

Unfortunately, the season has been married by injuries, inconsistency and a managerial change.

For many in Birdland, it’s been a season of frustration, and though the O’s aren’t theoretically out of it, the trade deadline will have a different look than originally believed.

The Orioles kicked off their trade season by sending right-hander Bryan Baker, who was under team control through 2028, to the Tampa Bay Rays for the 37th pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

While Baker was not considered a piece to be moved, the Rays made an offer essentially equivalent to a first-round pick for an inconsistent reliever.

We are here to take a look at a few players on expiring contracts the Orioles could move prior to the July 31 deadline. Mind you, this is all hypothetical, and the O’s could keep these players, extend them and/or offer a qualifying offer to them at the end of the season.

Let’s jump in and see who could be moved by the deadline this season.

CEDRIC MULLINS

One of the best defensive center fielders in the game, Cedric Mullins has made a career out of web gems, clutch hitting and plus speed.

Defensively, you couldn’t ask for a better guy to have roaming center. Mullins can track the ball with the best of them and make highlight reel catches look routine.

Mullins is slashing .216/.297/.401/.698 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He is playing his usual Gold Glove caliber defense and offers an intriguing target for many teams looking for a left-handed outfielder.

Possible Destinations: Houston Astros, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies

RYAN O’HEARN

It has been a feel-good story for Ryan O’Hearn, going from relative unknown to his first All-Star appearance in less than three seasons with Baltimore.

O’Hearn, who can play the corner outfield if needed, has been the ying to Ryan Mountcastle‘s yang. He swings a left-handed power bat and plays serviceable defense at first base, which will fit in with most contenders.

O’Hearn is slashing .278/.373/.451/.824 with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs. He is on pace to set career-highs in most offensive categories, and whether playing the field, DH’ing or pinch-hitting, he provides a consistent veteran bat and leadership for any team.

With an expiring contract and the consistent middle-of-the-order bat, plus the looming return of Mountcastle and Coby Mayo waiting for everyday reps, O’Hearn could attract many suitors leading up to the deadline.

Possible Destinations: Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox

ZACH EFLIN

Zach Eflin is no stranger to the deadline carousel. He has been involved in rumors before and was dealt just last season to the Orioles from the Rays.

Eflin was supposed to be a part of a rotation that featured him and Grayson Rodriguez leading the staff in 2025. Unfortunately, Rodriguez has yet to pitch this season, and Eflin is currently on the IL (his third stint since coming to the Orioles).

With a 6-5 record and a 5.95 ERA on the year, Eflin would provide a steady veteran presence with postseason experience to any contender. His six quality starts this season have been overshadowed by his poor month of June.

Eflin is a free agent at the end of the season and will be 32 prior to the start of the 2026 season. Being on the IL complicates any trade, so Eflin would need to return and show he is capable of regaining the form he had in 2024.

Possible Destinations: Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies

RAMÓN URÍAS

Ramón Urías has become quite the pleasant surprise for the Orioles since being claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals in 2020, even winning a Gold Glove in 2022 at third base.

Urías is able to play any infield position and provides a reliable and consistent bat. When receiving regular playing time, the 31-year-old Urías has proven to be an average hitter with sneaky power.

The versatile Urías is slashing .244/.294/.368/.661 with six home runs and 29 RBIs this season and has provided that same Gold Glove defense that he has shown the last five years for the Birds.

Possible Destinations: Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs

SERANTHONY DOMÍNGUEZ

Acquired last season in a deal that sent former All-Star outfielder Austin Hays to the Philadelphia Phillies, Seranthony Domínguez quickly established himself as a strong back-end bullpen piece as the Orioles struggled to fill the closer role last season.

The Birds picked up Domínguez’s club option, and he has provided them with a 3.72 ERA this season across 40 games, striking out 51 and walking 24.

With a fastball that hits 98 mph and the ability to miss bats with his splitter and sweeping breaking ball, Domínguez offers a high-powered arm that could help any contender this season.

Possible Destinations: Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs
