It’s safe to say that injuries are an unavoidable part of sports.
Players are going to get banged up, especially during a 162-game season. But it’s 100% safe to say that the Baltimore Orioles organization has been hit the heaviest with the injury bug.
At the time this article was written (4/29/2025), there is a total of 34 pitchers on the injured list in the Orioles organization. It feels like a video game number of pitching injuries, yet it’s the truth.
Sixteen players are currently placed on the 60-day or full season IL, which is 47% of the players placed. Of the 16 pitchers, two of them in Justin Armbruester and Albert Suárez have pitched in the 2025 regular season before becoming injured.
Five pitchers in Randy Berigüete, Bradley Brehmer, Jakob Hernandez, Logan Rinehart and Kyle Virbitsky threw their last outings in September.
The craziest thought is that three pitchers are still on the 60-day IL, and they haven’t thrown a pitch since the 2023 season.
Trey Nordmann hasn’t thrown a pitch in a game since June 23 of the 2023 season. It’s been 22 months since he touched the mound in a game. Likewise, Kiefer Lord hasn’t thrown a pitch since August 12, 2023, and Reese Sharp hasn’t pitched since September 10, 2023.
Tyler Wells and Kyle Bradish haven’t touched a mound in almost a year, and Grayson Rodriguez was on his way back from an elbow injury until yet another lat strain sidelined any progress he was making.
Thinking of stats like this and looking at the amount of injuries to the pitching staff, it really makes you wonder what the heck is going on medically with this organization, especially with the pitching talent.
This is a wildfire that just can’t seem to be tamed throughout the organization. Where and how does it stop?
