Through the first 25 games of the season, the Baltimore Orioles have looked flat and uninspired.

Few of the team’s personnel have brought energy consistently, and it leaves fans wondering whether or not this team has any potential to turn things around. However, there have been some bright spots in this otherwise dark start to the season.

One of those bright spots has been the play of Ramón Urías, who has been with the Orioles since the 2020 season. In his career with the Birds, he has played in 446 games, has won a Gold Glove in 2022 and has a career war of 9.7.

The big thing that has seemed to stick out for the O’s utility infielder is how consistent he’s been not just in 2025 but throughout his career. Urías isn’t going to be batting .300 with 20 home runs every year, but what he does bring you is juice and that clutch factor. He is never outspoken nor in the spotlight, but he has always been there when the team needed him most.

In 2022, when he won a Gold Glove at third base, we all knew he was a special defender, but fans were never expecting a season like that. Yet, as the Baby Birds arrived, Urías start to get pushed to the side.

In 2023, with the call-up of infielder Jordan Westburg and the signing of veteran second baseman Adam Frazier, we saw Urías’ playing time start to decrease more and more. Yet, he still managed to make plays when he was called upon.

The 2024 season might have been the year where fans would really start to appreciate Urías. Westburg was hit by a pitch on July 31 against the Toronto Blue Jays. The injury, originally thought to be season-ending, sidelined Westburg until September 22.

Urías seemed up to the task of being an everyday player again. In the time of Westburg’s absence, Urías played in 34 games where he posted a .263 average, six home runs and 19 RBIs. Although he was eventually bitten by the injury bug himself on August 31 when he rolled his ankle, he was the Orioles’ best hitter for almost a month.

So far this year in 2025, Urías has been a consistent contributor to a struggling ball club. He’s played in only 20 of the 28 games, but he’s proven that he should be a consistent presence in the starting lineup once again.

Urías’ current slash line is at .297/.365/.375. Yes, he only has one long ball on the season, but he’s managed to be one of a few guys who’s been able to get a big hit in a situation that’s needed one.

During the first game of the doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, Urías displayed some emotion when he showed off a dramatic bat flip after pulling a ball into the seats in left field. The home run was a clutch hit that brought Baltimore back into striking distance, and it felt like the most emotion we’ve seen from an Orioles player in weeks.

Hopefully, the rest of the ball club can look to guys like Urías, who show up every day and is able to grind to make things happen. The Ramón Empire is still very much alive in Charm City.
