The second full week of Minor League Baseball is finished, and we saw a lot happen down on the farm.
From debuts and the first look at the renovations to Prince George’s Stadium to a Friday without any baseball, it was a fun yet crazy week for the Orioles minor league affiliates.
Let’s take a look at which top prospects stood out from this past week.
NORFOLK TIDES: COBY MAYO – INF / KYLE BRNOVICH – RHP
The Norfolk Tides are mirroring their parent club not only in record (6-9) but in an explosive and disappearing offense and an up-and-down pitching staff.
This past week, the Tides dropped their series against the Stripers, losing four of six games while the offense was an enigma once again.
While the Tides will look to straighten things out before their next series, let’s take a look at the standouts from this past week.
Reaching base in nine straight plate appearances, Coby Mayo, the Orioles No. 2 prospect and MLB’s No. 13, ended his week slashing .438/.545/.875/1.420 with two Mayo-bombs, six RBIs and five walks.
Mayo is now slashing .245/.371/.490/.861 for the year, with three home runs and 11 RBIs. He has struck out 15 times and has walked 11 times.
The other K.B. in the trade that brought Kyle Bradish to Baltimore, Kyle Brnovich is proving that he has talent as well. This week, Brnovich was the standout pitcher on a team looking for a bright spot.
Brnovich would pitch four innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. He would strike out five batters versus one walk while picking up the victory.
Brnovich has now pitched in three games (two starts) this season. He is 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA across 12.2 innings with 18 strikeouts and four walks.
While opponents are slugging .510 and hitting .275 against Brnovich, it’s outings like this that show the potential of the 27-year-old righty.
The Tides will start a series in Omaha against the Storm Chasers on Tuesday, as they look to turn their season around.
CHESAPEAKE BAYSOX: TAVIAN JOSENBERGER – OF / ALEX PHAM – RHP
Tavian Josenbergr slashed .294/.333/.647 and had a .980 OPS in the six games he played against the Erie Seawolves this past week.
Josenberger collected five hits, including a double, a home run, five RBIs and a stolen base. He had a slow start adjusting to Double-A, but it’s safe to say that he has caught up to it.
As for the arm side of things, there was no better pick than Alex Pham, who started Thursday’s day game, and he did not disappoint one bit.
In 5.1 innings, he gave up three hits, one earned run, walked a batter and struck out nine.
The O’s No. 29 prospect had high expectations heading into the season, and he has looked solid to start the season, carrying a 2.89 ERA in two starts and 9.1 innings of work. Pham is at 14 strikeouts as well, as he tries to earn his third straight season of 130+ punchies.
ABERDEEN IRONBIRDS: ETHAN ANDERSON – C / BRAXTON BRAGG – RHP
Arguably, the best prospect of the week was catcher Ethan Anderson, who put on a show for Aberdeen.
A 1.125 OPS with a .381/.458/.667 slash was just the cherry on top for how good this kid was. Anderson had 11 RBIs this past series with eight hits, including three doubles and one home run, which was a grand slam.
Anderson’s start to the season has been fantastic. He is currently batting .375 with a 1.037 OPS, is tied for the most RBIs in the South Atlantic League and is also tied for the most hits in the SAL.
On the pitching side of things, it was all Braxton Bragg this week, as he collected his first win of the 2025 season with a 5.1-inning performance, giving up one hit, walking two and striking out eight.
Bragg has yet to give up an earned run in the 9.1 innings he has pitched this season. He currently has 11 strikeouts on the year and is carrying a 0.86 WHIP. Great start, but who’s bragging?
DELMARVA SHOREBIRDS: FERNANDO PEGUERO – INF / CHASE ALLSUP – RHP
We got some heavy hitters to talk about when it comes to the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Infielder Fernando Peguero was an on-base machine this past week, to say the least. Slashing .417/.632/.500 and having a 1.132, Peguero has a chance for the Shorebirds to sweep the Carolina League Players of the Week.
The 20-year-old had five hits, collecting an RBI and walking five times. He also stole three bases in four attempts.
For the pitching side, it was all decided on Thursday after what Auburn alumni Chase Allsup did on the mound: Five innings of one-hit ball, walking two batters and striking out 10.
After a struggle start on Opening Day for the Shorebirds, Allsup reminded us why the Orioles drafted him in the fourth round of the 2024 draft. He now carries a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings of work with 14 strikeouts.
