Sometimes, having depth is something of a treasure trove of riches. For the Baltimore Orioles, veteran minor league depth has brought other teams knocking.

Monday afternoon, the Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a trade with the O’s that would send veteran outfielder Daz Cameron and cash considerations to Milwaukee in exchange for 28-year-old left-handed pitcher Grant Wolfram.

Wolfram was drafted in 2015 by the Detroit Tigers in the 17th round out of Hamilton High School (Hamilton, MI). He attended Davenport University (Grand Rapids, MI) before being drafted in the 18th round by the Texas Rangers in 2018.

Wolfram played in the Rangers organization from 2018-2024, reaching Triple-A with the Round Rock Express. Electing free agency at the end of the season, Wolfram would sign with the Brewers organization before the end of 2024.

Wolfram has appeared in only two games this season, totaling three innings of work. He has posted a 6.00 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP, allowing four walks and striking out three batters.

Over his career, Wolfram has struggled with command, but his fastball and slider produce quite a bit of whiffs, with his heater and sinker sitting in the 94-95 mph range.

Wolfram has posted a 24-11 record across 177 games (25 starts) while posting a 3.99 ERA and 1.389 WHIP across 329 innings of work. He has struck out 403 batters and has been good at keeping the ball in the park, allowing 0.8 HR/9.

The one area of concern for the 6’7″ lefty is allowing just over 4.5 walks per nine innings of work and 34 wild pitches, but he is also striking out 11 batters per nine innings of work.

The Orioles sent outfielder Daz Cameron to the Brewers as part of the trade. Cameron, the son of former outfielder Mike Cameron, was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the Competitive Balance Round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

Cameron was traded to the Detroit Tigers as part of the Justin Verlander trade in 2017 and made his big league debut in 2020. He would play in Detroit from 2020-2022, and after spending 2023 in the O’s system, he elected free agency and played the 2024 season for the Athletics.

He would return to the Orioles for the 2025 season and be sent to Triple-A Norfolk in February. Cameron played in just five games, slashing .222/.333/.278/.611.

The 28-year-old has played in 139 games over parts of four seasons in the bigs, slashing .201/.263/.330/.593 in the majors. He can play any outfield position,  having played 31 games in left, 37 in center and 68 in right field, holding a career .997 fielding percentage.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Orioles transferred right-hander Albert Suárez to the 60-day injured list with a grade two right subscapularis strain.

Originally expected to be a big part of the Orioles’ season, Suárez was initially placed on the 15-day IL on March 29. He has made one appearance for the Birds, pitching 2.2 innings in the second game of the season in Toronto.

We would like to welcome Grant Wolfram, who has been sent to Triple-A Norfolk, to Birdland and wish the best going forward for Daz Cameron.
